A STRONG HEART BECAUSE OF QUERCETIN

What happens if a person uses quercetin supplements alone and how does it affect their blood pressure? The University of Utah created a study in 2007 to answer this question. Nineteen students in the study had pre-hypertension and there were twenty-two more students with stage 1 hypertension. Each student was supplemented with either a placebo or 730 mg quercetin per day for a total of 28 days. Pre-hypertensive patients were not affected by the supplements. However, the hypertensive group experienced a reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure averaging 7mm Hg and 5mm Hg reductions, these were meaningful changes that lowered the vascular disease risk.

A second study in 2008, a randomized, placebo-controlled crossover trial in 12 healthy men showed biochemical evidence of improved endothelial function with as little as 200 mg/day dosage of quercetin.

When you put these studies together, the results point to how quercetin can carry out an important role in protecting cardiovascular health.

I just found another point I think is significant. There is research that shows quercetin is involved in regulating a gene that protects against LDL cholesterol oxidation. Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) protects low-density lipoprotein (LD) cholesterol from the oxidation process. PON1 is a major anti-atherosclerotic protein component of the “good” cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

In one study, researchers investigated the role quercetin played in regulating gene PON1 expression in rats. In short, the researchers found the rats receiving quercetin had an increased expression of PON1 by 35%, and serum PON1 increase of 29%. The study’s author concluded, “Our data suggests that quercetin has anti-atherogenic effect by up-regulating PON1 gene expression and its protective capacity against LDL oxidation.

Let me add one other thought. Quercetin is an anti-inflammatory supplement. Inflammation has a direct affect on the total coronary and will kill you if it is not controlled. But, the inflammation does not limit itself to just the coronary system. If you have sore joints, it is because of inflammation. Therefore, quercetin has a very broad impact on the body.

CANCER SURVIVAL WITH QUERCETIN & RESVERATROL

CANCER SURVIVAL WITH QUERCETIN & RESVERATROL

Quercetin and Resveratrol are major breakthroughs. Research has demonstrated they have a large number of qualities that protect a person from cancer and at the same time will act to help cure a cancer patient These qualities are becoming even more evident as researchers combine quercetin or resveratrol with other natural compounds to achieve even greater success.

Both quercetin and resveratrol have qualities which have caused researchers to question its ability to prevent cancer. Resveratrol fights cancer by causing cancerous cells to destroy themselves. Resveratrol inhibits the activity of a protein called nuclear-factor Kappa B (NF-kB). This protein nourishes cancer cells promoting their growth. Quercetin has the ability to stifle cell proliferation and improve programmed cell death minimizing DNA damage. These qualities have created an interest as a cancer-preventive nutrient. There is also evidence from epidemiologic studies that strongly recommend quercetin and resveratrol correlate a reduced risk of certain cancers. Research studies have shown their ability to prevent or slow tumor development including cancers of the brain, liver, colon, and other tissues.

Research and clinical evidence of quercetin’s or resveratrol’s effective usefulness in preventing cancer as well as use in therapy is quickly building up. There was an early Phase 1 clinical trial of quercetin in patients with a variety of cancer types. Nine patients out of the total eleven patients in the study experienced a decrease in enzyme activity needed for tumor growth. There were also two patients suffering from advanced cancer that had not responded to chemotherapy. Both of the patients responded to the quercetin with important drops in chemical tumor markers during the period of the study.

It was found, in one study, cancer cells received a double assault when they were pretreated with the antioxidant, resveratrol and irradiation causing cell death, apoptosis. This caused an increase in confidence in resveratrol and quercetin in one group of doctors. Unfortunately, there was a group of doctors who expressed the fear that the antioxidant would protect tumor cells. Dr. Okunieff did not agree. He took the position that the study presented very little evidence to support the fear of tumor protection. Evidence supported the fact that when resveratrol reached its target, it injured the nexus of the malignant cells and at the same time protected the normal tissue from harm.

I hope this information will give the reader reason to ask their doctor direct questions if they are facing a problem involving cancer. Today we know the drug companies do not have any drugs that prevent or cure cancer. We know that today there are natural compounds that will give effective help in preventing and caring for cancer. At the top of my list is resveratrol and quercetin. Even more exciting is the fact that researchers are combining quercetin or resveratrol with curcumin and vitamin D3. These combinations are opening the doors to new areas for research to explore.

QUERCETIN MAKES MY HEART HEALTHY

When I decided to write my blog I had one fundamental reason, and it was a very personally-selfish reason. I wanted to learn how to stay healthy. I was really tired of being sick. I have had a heart attack and laid on that blacktop in a parking lot for a very long time before I was able to do anything but cough and force myself to breath. When I finally crawled to my car and pulled myself inside, I could not believe how much my back and chest hurt. It felt like I had been shot several times. About six weeks later I had an appointment with my doctor and she told me I had a heart attack. I knew I had to find a way to take better care of myself. It has now been several years since the attack and in my last physical I was told my heart is really strong and healthy. I accomplished this by refusing to take any drugs. It has been a constant search for alternative methods to give me the good health I have today. I hope you can see why quercetin is so important to me. This is a quick examination of how it helps the heart and eliminates the use of drugs whose side effects are many times more dangerous than if you take no medication. It is also a lot more affordable.

Heart disease is a major killer in America. Research has found that quercetin and resveratrol can have a direct link to solving this horrible problem. Researchers have found that if an individual increases the dietary intake of quercetin-rich foods, he should experience a reduction in the risk of heart disease being the cause of death. In 2000, Spanish researchers found that red wine carrying quercetin and related antioxidants restricted activity of inflammation promoting NF-kappa in human volunteers, furnishing a large part of the explanation of how red wine lowers heart disease mortality.

British researchers demonstrated in 2004 that when a human ingested quercetin supplements there was substantial lessening of platelet aggregation; indicating another of quercetin’s cardiovascular health benefits is related to lowering the risk of clotting. Later, this same group of researchers demonstrated that dietary intake of quercetin from onion soup also helped stop platelet aggregation. In another study of 30 men with heart disease, Greek cardiologists demonstrated that a red grape polyphenol extract rich in quercetin produced an increasing flow-mediated dilation of the major arteries. This was a potent indicator of endothelial health.

I hope you can see how quercetin has demonstrated repeatedly that it functions to improve the health of the heart and related tissue. I agree more research is needed to further refine our understanding of how quercetin and resveratrol can improve an individual’s health. But, I believe it did wonders to solve my heart problems.

CANCER TRIALS AND FAILURE

No, I have never had cancer, but members of my family have gone through the hell of cancer. I saw nothing to impress me in the way western medicine cared for my family member. I did not see any thought of innovative care or interest in finding a way to fight the cancer. What I saw was a group of robots that treated every cancer patient the same way; patients and their families were no different. There was absolute acceptance of their doom. The fatalistic depression gave these so-called doctors total freedom to do anything they chose to do. All of their brilliant treatments centered on the same series of treatment; chemotherapy, surgery or exposure to radiation. All of these procedures are extremely dangerous. They destroy the body’s immune system, and many patients do not die because of the cancer, they die because their body cannot survive an infection, which they would not have if their immune system was close to being healthy. My family member survived and is still alive and healthy, but still lives in fear of cancer.

Right after my family member’s surgery and before her release from the hospital, I found myself in a serious discussion with a doctor who told me about a German Biochemist, named Dr. Otto Warburg. He discovered the “cause of cancer back in 1923”. Dr. Warburg wrote a book titled, “The Metabolism of Tumors”, and in the book he demonstrated the primary cause of cancer as the replacement of oxygen in the respiratory chemistry of normal cells by the fermentation of sugar. The doctor’s finding was the fermentation process can only be initiated in the relative absence of oxygen. Today there is no recognition of Dr. Warburg’s work by western medicine, in alternative medicine there is a growing movement pushing such things as keeping the body in an alkaline state rather than in an acidic state.

Progress in cancer treatment has hardly progressed in the last forty years. Every hospital and cancer center in the United States treats cancer as a production line. It is still the same old approach, surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. The drug company’s still do not have any cures, and when someone steps up and presents a procedure or natural based supplement to successfully treat cancer, they block it and destroy it. There is no profit in curing anyone. But, somehow, quercetin and resveratrol have escaped the wrath of the established medical system. Both are demonstrating that these two natural supplements can protect and cure cancer patients. When nutrition is combined with quercetin and resveratrol, the future can look even brighter and healthier for a cancer patient.

QUERCETIN & RESVERATROL BEAT OBESITY

I have had a number of health problems in 72 years and one of the toughest for me has been to keep my weight down. When I discovered quercetin, I was surprised and really question the information I was reading about the research on quercetin and obesity. But, I have to admit, it is really hard to ignore the facts as presented by the research findings.

Obesity is rapidly becoming one of Earth’s major global health problems. Quercetin has captured the attention of scientists and they are eagerly exploring quercetin’s potential as a technology to control fat accumulation. Fat has long been considered inert; a biologically uninteresting tissue. Now science knows the old idea that fat is inert is totally wrong. Today, fat is considered, by many in science, to be a beehive of endocrine activity and metabolic activity producing a large number of hormones, inflammatory cytokines and other molecules which influence health, both good and bad.

Recent research is very exciting; it shows that this flavonoid can by itself or in combination with resveratrol and genistein, have the ability to exert multiple effects directly on fat tissue.

Fat accumulation in aging human fat cells is restricted in culture. This also stops the aging of new fat cells and simultaneously starts apoptosis (the programmed destruction of existing fat cells). Quercetin works to block the intake of glucose from the blood. This deprives fat cells from receiving the raw material needed to produce and gather fat molecules. A University of Georgia research group published a striking report in 2008 in which they reported they could stop fat cell production and increase fat cell death by using either resveratrol or quercetin. When they combined resveratrol and quercetin, lipid accumulation was sharply reduced in cultured fat cells by nearly 70%, and increased fat cell apoptosis by an amazing 310%.

Animal studies have shown support to the potential anti-obesity qualities of quercetin. It is no surprise that quercetin alone or in combination with other nutraceuticals is receiving so much attention from researchers trying to find an effective methodology to block obesity and its many harmful effects on human health and vigor.

Quercetin is a wide spread polyphenol found in apples, onions, and red grapes and has been ignored for years, so others in its class have received all of the attention... In the last two years there has been a tremendous increase in information emerging about the versatile molecule. It is now understood that quercetin fundamentally affects disease processes as different as cancer, obesity, heart disease and asthma. The effects of its powerful antioxidant will reduce inflammation throughout the body. The most astonishing effect is that quercetin may have a direct and independent influence in prolonging life itself, the mechanisms of which are becoming less mysterious to science as they are attracted to the deep inside cellular processes.

Quercetin and Viral Defense

When I started researching quercetin, I had no idea that it could have such a potential impact on every person that comes in contact with it. If someone had told me they had an infected cut or wound, I understood how painful that could be, but if they told me the condition was inflammatory, I would never have understood what they were saying. Now I am beginning to understand how inflammation is involved in almost every degenerative disease and medical problem we humans have to deal with.

Research on quercetin is being conducted in many research centers around the world. Researchers in Brazil and Korea have found quercetin was successful in reducing airway resistance (difficulty breathing) more than the adrenaline – like drug albuterol and was equivalent in effect as anti-inflammatory cromolyn. It also performed as well as the potent steroid dexamthasone. Michigan State University explored the impact of dietary flavonoids in their role in systemic anti-inflammatory agents. They knew certain foods acted to lower levels of inflammatory risk factor, C – reactive protein (CRP). Because of this, they started looking for food elements to lower CRP and higher flavonoids were found to successfully lower CRP. Quercetin was at the top of the list of specific flavonoid compounds; thus providing cells the greatest defensive protection. High CRP levels are involved with numerous disease conditions such as obesity, heart disease and lupus. Many researchers now believe it is very important to explore quercetin’s potential for preventing death and disability from a host of major killers.

Garlic has almost 200 compounds. Garlic has been used for centuries to treat and prevent infectious diseases and viral complications. Quercetin is one of the 200 compounds in garlic. Modern science has verified quercetin benefits in preventing viral diseases. Laboratory research on quercetin has acted to reduce reproduction and infection of many viruses, including reparatory syncytial virus (a common causative agent of children’s upper respiratory infection).

Last year Italian researchers discovered that an extract rich in quercetin will up regulate an anti-viral immune response in infected cells. Herpes infected cells responded well to this approach. In an animal study quercetin supplementation was effective in aiding mice to resist an influenza infection following exercise – induced stress. A German nutrition expert Professor Stephan C. Bishoff stated “Quercetin is a most promising compound or disease prevention and therapy.”

FDA Attempts To Probit Pyridoxamine

The FDA is trying to prevent the public use of Pyridoxamine, a natural form of vitamin B6. If the FDA is successful, we will no longer have the ability to have access to this vitamin, which has been available forever. This action is being justified because a drug company has filed a formal request to remove Pyridoxamine as a marketed dietary supplement. This action is justified because a pharmaceutical company has conducted research studies costing a very large sum of money and could not finish the research before they ran out of money. The FDA’s action would protect the drug company’s financial interests and it is not important that a new drug might never be developed or approved, and the restriction on pyridoxamine would continue to prevent it being available to the public as a supplement.

Why is Pyridoxamine medically important? Have you ever heard of glycation? I had never heard of it until a couple of days ago, and now I understand why it is important. Glycation increases the speed of degenerative diseases. Glycation occurs when glucose pathologically crosslink’s with a protein, making the product of the crosslink nonfunctional. There is nothing that can stop the glycation process completely. But a number of anti-glycation maneuvers can be added to our daily nutrient program to help. Research has developed a method to break glycated protein crosslink’s, reversing this aging mechanism. The FDA has acted to impede this research with regulatory barriers they have created. These crosslink breakers are referred to as glycation-reversing agents.

Medical importance of pyridoxamine, vitamin B6, is clearly shown in research studies that it prevents chronic disease and suppresses disease growth. This form of B6 is specifically effective in retarding the creation of advanced glycation end products. A quick list of age related health problems that B6 (pyridoxamine) reduced or aided are:

Atherosclerosis
Chronic Inflammation
Cataract Formation
Kidney Failure
Diabetic Complications
Alzheimers disease

One of the advantages of pyridoxamine is that it can be taken in high doses and you would not suffer peripheral neuropathy.

Kidney disease and Type 2 diabetes are two huge markets for the drug companies. If they could develop a drug that slowed the rate of kidney failure, they would have massive income. Research has shown that pyridoxamine slows the kidney failure marker, creatinine, by 68%. It would be terrific if this knowledge was made totally available to the medical community so those suffering from these diseases could benefit. But the drug company doing the research is out of money. Even if they found new funds, there is no guarantee that a new drug would become available now or in the future. If a new drug was developed it would be expensive, whereas, pyridoxamine can give those who suffer these medical problems relief and not break them financially. This twisted way the FDA operates just makes the whole thing a hoax. What really upsets me is that pyridoxamine is found in the food we eat. When we eat a meal we ingest pyridoxamine in small quantities. How does the FDA feel they have the power to ban a vitamin the public consumes in almost every meal? They have defined the safest form of vitamin B6 (pyridoxamine) to be a new drug. I have news for you; B6 has been around ever since time began.

Life Extension Magazine, July, 2009 issue, has a detailed article written by William Faloon. FDA Seeks to Ban Pyridoxamine.

Stress And Cortisol Almost Shattered My Life 3

Before I start to explain my other blunders caused by my refusal to pay attention to the signals my body was sending me, I want to see if I can help those of you willing to open your minds and take some tips on how to avoid the hell I have lived in for the past forty-five years. I know now that I never had to suffer from any of the problems I have had. I married a fabulous lady that did not deserve to be put through the hell she has had to live with. Read what I am going to share with you. STRESS AND CORTISOL DEFICIENCY DO NOT HAVE TO BE PART OF YOUR LIFE. I can say that because I have seen the numbers saying 80% to 87% of the American population suffers from TOXIC STRESS. None of you will admit that you are suffering from stress, so let me ask you a few questions:

How many cups of coffee do you need in the morning to stay awake?
How many donuts or other goodies do you eat to stay awake?
How many beers or shots do you need to get control of yourself?
How often do you go out with your wife and enjoy each other?
Why do you have to have a drink to relax? Why can’t you relax?
If you have kids, why is it you never enjoy the time you have with them?
If you are single, are you happy with your life? Why not?
Here is one of the big questions: When you make love to your partner does it make you happy because you are sharing yourself with your partner or is something always more important?

I have had to deal with the above type of questions too many times and not once was it pleasant. I am not a trained therapist and I cannot tell you how to solve these problems. I cannot do that because until recently I did not understand what was happening to me and so I did not gain much insight.

Let me tell you how I set myself up for the Adrenal Fatigue. I graduated from high school in 1955, and went to work for the phone company climbing telephone poles. In 1957, I got a chance to start college at a local junior college. I joined a club and met a group of men that have had a tremendous impact on my life. I spent two years at that junior college. I got involved in campus politics, became president of the club, wrote a book, and worked a full-time job at Todd Shipyard as a rigger apprentice. I also carried twelve units of classes. There was not much time to sleep and proper sleep is important to maintain good health. I was beginning to create my toxic stress problem with Cortisol.

In 1960 I transferred to a local campus of California State College. I carried twelve units of classes, worked for one of the professors at his home, and started a local fraternity with the hope I could make it a colony of a national fraternity. While I was a student, I became very involved in fraternity and campus politics. I increased the stress because I worked very long hours. I never took time out for a good time. Stress was compounded because I never allowed myself to have an outlet for fun and enjoy the brothers around me. By this time it was really hard to relax at night and just go to sleep. I started to put on weight. Finally, I had a very difficult time trying to understand what I was going to do with my life. I felt I had to have the challenge (another term would be a fight without getting physical) before I was happy. I graduated in 1965.

After graduation I went to work for several corporations. I was successful in every job but I did not necessarily make any friends. I worked the same long hours and with the same driven intent that I had as a student. Then I wanted my own company and opened my Environmental Graphic Design Practice. I had no training in art and I knew nothing about environmental graphics. I did not have anyone to talk to. Somehow I put the pieces of the puzzle together just as I had as a student, and I was successful. Each new project was bigger than what I had already completed. I started out working in a bedroom at home, moved to the garage and then into an industrial park, splitting the rent with an architect. I worked seven days a week, twelve to sixteen hours per day. I never took a day off. I celebrated no holidays. I seldom saw my wife and saw less of the kids. I was always worried or scared of some group of problems. I never found a way to enjoy the success. I competed against two of the best designers and took contracts away from them. When it was all over, I realized they had been my principal teachers. I also discovered that I was much more expensive per hour than they were. My project performance organization allowed me to complete a project in a much more complex manner and still beat their price. Why was I such a mess? I did not drink, but I was really heavy; always tired and angry. The people around me used to say my normal attitude was Anger. I did not understand the problems my wife was having. There was no intimacy between my wife and me. It was not her fault. I just did not have a clue. There was no challenge. We would argue, but it was not the same as a competitive fight. There was no trophy to be won. After twelve years of this hell, I was ready for a big fall and it happened in 1982. The economy went to pieces. I went from billing my time at $75.00 an hour to working in a liquor store for minimum wage. I was shattered and went to pieces. I had no self confidence, no strength; I was always tired. I had no idea what was wrong. The doctors I saw could not offer me any help.

I broke every rule and paid with a lot of pain. I HOPE ANYONE READING THIS CAN BE SMARTER THAN I WAS. IT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO WIN BIG IF YOU CANNOT ENJOY THE PRIZE. YOU HAVE TO FIND THINGS IN LIFE THAT YOU CAN ENJOY AND YOU HAVE TO FIND SOMEONE YOU CAN ENJOY THEM WITH. THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS LIFE THAT IS WORTH MAKING IT THE ONLY THING IN YOUR LIFE. BOOZE AND DRUGS WILL NOT HELP YOU. ALCOHOLICS ALREADY HAVE ADDISON’S DISEASE. DRUGS WILL NOT WORK; YOU WILL REALLY SCREW YOURSELF UP.

I wish I could tell you I found it very simple to solve my Cortisol problem. It was not easy. First of all, I read everything I could find on health and developed a very angry attitude toward doctors. Durk Pearson’s book was the foundation for my education in alternative medicine. In 2001, a book was published, titled Adrenal Fatigue, The 21st Century Stress Syndrome; written by James L. Wilson, N.D., D.C., Ph.D. When I got the book I could not believe what I read. Dr. Wilson knew exactly what I had been going through. He had actually put a program together so I could overcome the Cortisol problem. My first and probably the most difficult thing for me was to find a way to read the book and remember what I had read. The fatigue made my cognitive processes all scrambled. Fortunately, Dr. Wilson developed a line of supplements designed to help a person overcome Adrenal Fatigue. We were not making much money but somehow we found a way to buy the supplements. I got really lucky on two occasions and was able to talk to Dr. Wilson. He answered a lot of questions which really helped. Talking to Dr. Wilson was a tremendous help for me. He knew what I was going through and gave me confidence to believe in myself. The rest is just history. As I listed earlier, I have overcome Addison’s disease and I am working very hard to put my life together. I recognize that not much has changed over the years. It still takes a lot of energy to rise above the problems we encounter in life and there is no simple solution. We must have faith in ourselves and believe in ourselves. I know there will be many tests in the future and only time will tell if I have the inner strength to overcome the barriers.

Stress And Cortisol Almost Shattered My Life

Yesterday, a chap asked me why I was writing this blog. I had a problem answering him because my reasons are all very personal and private. Finally, I told him about the things that have happened to me and he told me to put it in the blog. In his opinion, it gives the blog more meaning and truth. I don’t know if you will believe me, but here is my story.

I have to admit I am very angry at what happened to me when I found out I had Addison’s disease. It almost killed me and I had to find out what was happening to me. By accident, I discovered my problem was Cortisol Insufficiency. Not one doctor would talk to me about Cortisol. They were all afraid of being prosecuted for treating Cortisol Insufficiency. It was illegal for a doctor to treat any form of Cortisol problem induced by stress.

Have you ever heard of Cortisol? Cortisol is a hormone produced by the Adrenal glands. There is one adrenal gland on the top of each kidney. Cortisol affects a vast majority of the body’s systems; digestion, neurotransmitters in the brain, and the thyroid gland, to name a few. The list is very long. When your balance of Cortisol is messed up, you are set up for all of the degenerative diseases; I mean cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. It robs a man of his manhood and you can no longer give your woman the things she needs most. I also became very weak, no stamina, I lost the ability to solve simple problems. This led me to become one very angry person. I could no longer support myself or my family in a good paying or responsible job. As things got worse I could not get along with anyone. Not only were the emotional problems caused by the Cortisol screwing up my brain chemistry and neurotransmitters, I could not find a way to make anyone understand what was happening to me, because I had no understanding of what was going on. When something would happen, I wanted to fight, but I couldn’t because I did not have the strength or ability to control my legs or balance. So I just withdrew into myself. My wife did not leave me, but our relationship was almost nonexistent. All we did was fight. The kids lost their respect for me and I could not understand what was happening. God, I tried everything I could to find an answer to my problems.

In 1983 I got my first real break. I met Durk Pearson and his wife, Sandy Shaw. I was lucky and got to talk to Durk for almost an hour. He got me started on Alternative Medicine. I read their book, Life Extension, A PRACTICAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACH. It was not until 1997 that I heard about hormone testing and the importance of testosterone. I had read several articles that explained if a man does not have a healthy level of testosterone he would experience fatigue. I had given up trying to get any information from doctors and I heard about a new form of testing using samples of saliva to measure a man’s hormones. I had no idea what the hormones did or why they were important to the operation of the human body. I just knew I wanted to find out how to get rid of the fatigue. Just before I ordered the saliva tests I heard about another serious form of testing being used to identify heavy metal poisoning. I did not have the money and knew my wife would get really angry, still I ordered both tests. When I got the test results back, I really had no way to understand their meaning. It was simple to see that I really did not have any testosterone. But the results did not tell me how to correct the deficiencies for any of the hormones. The heavy metals test did not tell me anything. I was really confused and very depressed.

I made appointments with several doctors and showed them the two tests and asked them to explain what the results for each test meant. None of them would tell me anything. They told me the tests were worthless because I did not use blood tests. Now I was really feeling disgusted and like I had been ripped off. The doctors had charged me several hundred dollars for each appointment and they did nothing. Each appointment took about 10 minutes of the doctor’s time.

While I was trying to figure out the tests and how they could help me I heard about a doctor in Washington. His name is Jonathan Wright. Dr. Wright only practices alternative medicine. I contacted his office and got their address. I sent a letter to Dr. Wright and told him about my problems and asked him to help me find a doctor here in Orange County, California. It took almost two months before I received any response. One of his staff sent me the name and address of a doctor that practices alternative medicine. I called and got an appointment. Then I realized the doctor was a woman and I found out that she did not normally see men as patients. After I met Dr. Connealy I showed her the hormone test and heavy metal test. She was very quick in responding to each test. She looked at the heavy metal test and told me I had a real problem with arsenic and strontium. She explained in detail what the test showed and how I could overcome the heavy metal toxins. Then she looked at the hormone test and told me I had a serious problem because I had flatlined the Cortisol test. She explained how important Cortisol was and why it put my life in danger. I asked her what I could do to overcome the problem and I could not believe her answer. She told me she did not know how to solve the problem and she could not help me. I should have been really upset and angry, but I wasn’t. She had told me the truth and that was the most important thing anyone had done for me in a very long time.

I had to find ways to treat myself. I flatlined for four years and should have died. Before long I was reading anything I could find on health and I started calling any one that I thought might have some idea on how I could fight the Cortisol insufficiency. Somehow, I found the answers and was able to put the puzzle together. In 2006 I was tested again. This time I was normal; there were six saliva samples; two were normal and four were high, a total reversal from the three earlier tests. Now the doctors were more than willing to talk to me, they figured I had Cushing’s syndrome, a tumor that would require surgery. After more tests I was shown to be healthy.

Because of their incompetence I almost lost my wife as I could no longer be a man. Manhood demands more than the ability to fight and use my fists. Sex is an extremely strong and natural need every human has. It makes no difference whether it is a man or a woman. There will be no love and close intimate relationship between a man and woman if they do not fulfill the sexual needs they each have. It has been hard for my wife to understand what has happened to me and I do not blame her. I did not know how to explain to her or the kids what was happening to me. Even in 2006 I was only then starting to understand just how complex this Cortisol problem could be.

I finally had a place to start and rebuild my life. My way of handling problems earlier in my life was to go at the problem directly and it served me well. As I can look back now, I realize I seldom failed to achieve my goals. But I paid a heavy price every time. I achieved success starting in college that my mentor complimented me on. He was right. I had a long list of accomplishments that said I was a winner. Unfortunately, I was just setting myself up for a big fall. Winning is great, but it really does not have any great meaning if you are not satisfied and happy to enjoy your friends and family. I never learned that lesson. None of this Toxic Stress has to happen.
